RSS (Rich Site Summary) is a way to deliver regularly changing web content to your website(s). Most news-related sites and online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to be used by anyone who would like to use it.  RSS allows your web users to stay informed by retrieving the latest content from the sites you are feeding from.

For Example: If you wanted to have a portlet on your website/page that displayed new headlines, an RSS feed could be setup to the New York Times to retrieve their latest headlines every 4 hours.  The contents of the feed would display on your website with links to the NYT full article (if the user wanted to read the whole thing).
